Exhibited in the Solstice Arts Centre as part of As an gCeo from June 22nd until August 24th 2024 and later at Architecture at the Edge Festival 2024

The piece explores the community and perseverance of Irish islanders. It showcases the labour and sacrifice involved in transforming rocky fields into fertile land. The base is Cotton fabric. A cyanotype process outlines native Irish seaweed, symbolizing its historic use as fertiliser as well as the drystone wall systems of Oileán Chléire, which have been highlighted through embroidery, highlighting the process which clears fields of stones and creates land divisions. The organic seaweed silhouettes, created through sun exposure, contrast with the whipped stitching of the drystone walls, allowing the walls to rise from the land from which the stone is gathered. The piece represents the struggle and harmony between the islanders and the rugged landscape, highlighting their knowledge, deep understanding and use of local materials passed down for generations.
