The Uncomfortable Everyday
Film by Darren O’Connor in collaboration with Anna Urbani, Alicja Zwierz, Ruby Walsh, Tanya Milnes and Nancy Mitchelson.
“The Uncomfortable Everyday” subverts the contemporary Swedish design language of IKEA to discuss and represent the stories and experiences of asylum seekers and refugees in Sweden. The work utilises speculative design fiction to test how theory could be enacted through spatial and sensory experience. The project sought not to assign specific blame but to reveal our shared involvement in systems of exclusion.
