Town Ecologies

The Town Ecologies process in Goresbridge was developed through a week-long residency and community co-design programme delivered in collaboration with Goresbridge Rural Development. Working alongside fellow architectural graduates Kevin Quinlan and Kate Hunter Hanley, the project engaged local residents in exploring their understanding of the village through mapping, discussion and creative participation. Insights gathered during the residency and a community co-design workshop at Ionad Dara informed an output report structured around three key themes: The Town, The River and The Community, capturing local knowledge, aspirations and opportunities for future development.

The workshop combined a range of participatory activities, including place mapping, community storytelling, social calendars and creative exercises that encouraged residents to share their experiences and visions for Goresbridge. Contributions from local schools, supported by Workhouse Union and designer Paul Bokslag, ensured younger voices were represented throughout the process. As part of the wider Town Ecologies programme, the project supported community-led thinking and informed subsequent initiatives, including the development of a Smart Villages strategy and the establishment of a Town Team for Goresbridge.
